Re-live those old memories the modern way ...
... You'll never need that old projector and screen again!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FILM - DVD TRANSFER

How long does it take to get my finished DVD from Pyramid?
Usually you will have your completed DVD(s) within 7 days.

Where do I bring my tapes?
You may bring them into our lab or post them to us at:

Pyramid Imaging
67 Grassmarket
Edinburgh
EH1 2HJ

What about copyrighted videos?
We can only transfer videos / films where you have the copyright holder's permission (if you didn't shoot it yourself). We have to assume that by placing the order with us, you do have copyright permission.

What hardware will I need?
Our DVD's are DVD-R format and are 'zone free' with no copy protection (i.e. no macrovision). This means they will play on most standalone DVD players. For computer playback, you'll need a DVD equipped Pentium II PC, 266 MHz or higher, Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP, or a Mac with a DVD running OS 9.0.04 or higher. In other words, 99% of modern computers will play them.

What DVD players are compatible with your DVDs?
Almost all. Some older models, incompatible with recordable DVD's (DVD-R) will be unable to read ours. We make sure that we use the highest possible grade of disks to prevent any skipping or jumping during playback.

How many tapes can I put on one DVD?
For reasons of maintaining quality, only one tape per DVD please. Trying to squeeze more than 2 hours onto a DVD involves too much compression and subsequent loss of quality.

What Format are they recorded in?
All our DVD's are recorded in PAL which will playback on most televisions. We accept PAL, NTSC, and SECAM video tapes.

Will my DVDs work with the new HD-DVD and Blu Ray formats?
Yes! Unlike every other predecessors your DVDs will play in the newer format players.

I have just got a new HD-DVD / Blu Ray player - will you record onto their new format disks?
Not at the minute! It all comes down to the number of lines each format is capable of storing - both far exceed most cine and tape formats. You really need HD camera recording equipment to take advantage of this, and since this wasn't available when you made your recordings it won't give any extra quality to your recording.

How often are scenes chaptered?
Generally every five minutes, unless the DVD is particularly short in which case every 3 minutes. We can alter this at your request. There is no menu at the start - it just plays! You can skip ahead by pressing the next button until you get to the section you require. Menus can be placed at the start if you prefer and we would base this on a time charge to create this for you.

My video / cine film has strange colours on it - can you correct this?
We always strive for the best at Pyramid and we will do our best to make the colours as normal as possible. Cine can suffer from fading colours which we can generally compensate for (assuming it has not faded altogether). Similarly older videos suffered from poor CCD technology and could get the colours wrong. We correct colour with both hardware video correctors (on the fly) and if necessary software correction afterwards. In certain circumstances both methods will not be able to restore the colour properly but it will be better than not using colour correction.

I want to transfer some of the tape to DVD / remove parts - can you do this?
Yes - but there will be an additional charge based on the time this takes to edit. We generally remove fuzz / noise / damaged parts out of the recording to maximise the quality of your DVD as a matter of course.

Do you save onto video tape?
Yes - if you must! We don't recommend this though as you will only end up transferring to DVD eventually - Video players are not made any more.

My cine film / video / camcorder tape is damaged - can you transfer it to DVD?
Maybe. Cine can be repaired by removing the bad section and joining the two good parts together. Video tapes can be "transplanted" into working cassettes if necessary. If the video has become twisted then it will result in poor play back. We will try our best to minimise this but you may find the video will not play properly at this section. Each case is individually evaluated and will be charged accordingly for both materials used and time taken.

Will I get my original tapes / films back?
Yes - of course!

You've Lost Your Memories - Haven't You!!

When was the last time you enjoyed looking at your old slides and transparencies? Maybe you want to but you don't have a projector any more. We'll bet your mum, dad and grand parents would love to enjoy their treasured memories again. So why not transfer all your old 35mm slides to an auto running DVD that anyone can play and enjoy on their TV?

Pyramid can take negatives, transparencies, prints, slides and digital camera files and put them on a DVD disk which will play on most ordinary DVD players. With the option to add background music and smooth fades between images we can guarantee you a very personalised gift which is ideal for Birthdays, Weddings / Anniversaries and Christmas Presents.

Remember Pyramid uses industry standard scanners which are capable of removing dust and scratches from slides as well as colour adjusting ageing images - don't accept poor quality imitations. All our transfers are done electronically - not filmed off a slide projector screen.

Why not come into Pyramid and discuss your requirements - we'll be happy to give you an accurate quote.

I-Tunes and MP3 downloads are all very well, but all too often, records that you enjoyed in your youth just aren't available on CD or as downloads. Everyone has their collection of tapes, 45s & 33s but usually they're gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere with no record player to play them on.

NOT ANY MORE!!
Using the latest technology, we can convert your old tapes, singles and LP's to MP3 format to enable you to enjoy those blasts from the past that you thought you would never hear again. Please note that if your original records have the odd skip and jump then these will still be audible on the MP3's - but hey, that's part of the nostalgia!!
